Object | Nigel Cabourn - Mandalay Jacket

I don't know what it is about yellow rain jackets, but they've been on my mind a lot lately. I don't think I would wear bright yellow on any other piece but they seem oddly natural on rain jackets for some reason. Maybe it's Take Ivy that has influenced me, maybe it's just some hidden urge to wear something a bit more attention-grabbing than my usual outerwear.

Whatever it is, I seem to be in luck as there actually is a number of options out there right now. My favorite so far is this one from Nigel Cabourn. Modeled after a vintage jacket from the british army, the jacket is made in a PU coated cotton and silk blend that is lightweight enough to be packed-away. It also features a foldaway hood, drawstrings, two flap wents in the front and a fishtail vent in the back as well as two front flap pockets. Now if only it was available in my size..

Advent Calendar | # 18 Nigel Cabourn - Sir Edmund Hillary Everest Parka

We've featured a few parkas on here this fall, but when it comes to weather protection and, in my opinion, looks this one takes the number one spot.

Nigel Cabourn is famous for his pieces inspired by old garments and this one is probably the best one yet. Named after sir Edmund Hillary who climbed Mount Everest, this one would certainly protect you quite well against even the most extreme conditions. 

Style-wise it's got no flaws either, from the shearling lined hood to the big flap pockets. As I've said before I'm a huge fan of the drawstring concept on a parka, and this one is a great example of that. Tie the drawstrings as a ribbon and you've already got this one looking gift-wrapped already.

Advent Calendar | #11 A.P.C. - Padded Down Parka

While we have discussed a lot of jackets and coats for this fall, there is one kind we have failed to mention; the down jacket. So naturally, we give you our favorite option this season when it comes to those. 

This A.P.C. one not only stands out because of the unusual beige color but also because of a few other tasteful details that makes this a stand-out piece, such as the style of the flap-pockets, the leather insets, the funnel neck and the contrasting white buttons.

When it comes to keeping warm, nothing beats a down puffer and with this you don't risk looking like Bibendum.

Advent Calendar | #3 April 77 - Def Tank Jacket

As we've mentioned before, the parka has seen an upswing in popularity in the last couple of seasons. But as the weather gets colder, the thin layered parkas, altough windproof, might not always do the trick to keep the cold out. Where should you turn to then? Why, the lined parka of course.

While April 77's "Def Tank Jacket"'s  faux-shearling lined might be limited to the hood it will probably still suffice when it comes to keeping you warm, not to mention good-looking. The streamlined shape, hidden button-closure and olive khaki colour gives you that military air without making you look like G.I. Joe. And it has two front pockets that you can shove your hands into if you've forgotten to bring your gloves.

Object | Moncler - Reversible Nylon Parka

French brand Moncler is mostly known for their classic down jackets & parkas which has become a staple for the jetset of the Alps because of it's clean aesthetics and great quality.

Here's something a bit more apropriate for the summer heat. The reversible nylon parka is a lightweight jacket, perfect for windy days Usually I'm not a big fan of reversible jacket as it seems 1+1 often equals 0,8 when it comes to jackets. But this one does the trick by keeping it subtle, with both sides being in a earthy khaki hue, one of them a bit darker than the other (check the link for more pictures). The darker side also features a few additional breast pockets on the outside. It's still pretty pricey even though Brown's got it marked down but since it's a quality product so you're bound to get your moneys' worth out of it.

Object | Our Legacy - Parka Jacket Cream

The parka is rapidly becoming a spring must-have it seems and there are a lot of good options out there. It doesn't come as a big surprise to me, that one of the best comes from one of our favorites, swedish Our Legacy.

As with most of Our Legacy's pieces this parka jacket is a textbook example of how it should be done. Made in a cream water-repellant cotton fabric from Italy (also available in blue), it's more slim-fitting than many of it's competitors. Plenty of pockets in the front, a big nice hood to protect you from wind and rain and the most important feature of them all drawstrings at the bottom. My only complaint would be that it's a bit on the short side. I wouldn't mind if it had at least reached mid-thigh but apart from that, as stated, this is pretty much it when it comes to parkas.
