Object | Sabatino - New Colombo Coat

Do you ever look at your closet and realize that you've snowed in on a particular color? That like ninety percent of everything you've bought in the last couple of months is just in different nuances of what is basically the same color?

Well, I took a look at my own wardrobe a couple of months ago and realized that I've been overdosing on grey. Since then I've been trying to steer clear of it and instead been buying black, navy and my new favorite, beige. It's started to get to the point where I've just traded one obsession for another. Fortunately I haven't that many beige garments in my closet yet, so I can keep obsessing for a while longer.

This colombo coat, which comes courtesy of Opening Ceremony, is my latest fix in this color-addiction of mine. It's made by the enigmatic, supposedly japanese brand Sabatino that I first encountered in GQ's 2008 Buyer's Club in the form of a certain shawl-collared cardigan. As I said there's not much info on the brand nor the piece itself so this recommendation is based purely on my own personal impression of it, but as far as looks goes this is pretty rad. The aesthetics is clean and uncluttered, the fit is spacious which is great as it allows for some serious layering, perfect for fall. Detailing include hidden buttoning, button-adjustable sleeves and one vent in the back. Do I even need to mention the fact that I'm crazy about the color?

Object | Alexis Mabille - Butterfly Brooche

Browsing the site I discovered some more areas we've been neglecting; bags and accesories. Sorry about that, we'll do our best to correct our negligence.

Starting off with accesories, this is always a tricky business. Someone (too tired to remember who it was, too lazy to look it up) once said that the only accesory a man should ever wear is a watch. That seems a bit harsh to me. Sure you should never over-complicate your outfit but the right accesory can add just that right amount of spice needed. Besides there are always belts and ties, the safe ways beside the wristwatch, to accesorize with.

But today we're playing it a bit less safe, with this butterfly brooche from the french designer Alexis Mabille, available at Studio Homme. Mabille has an impressive resume from the world of fashion, and we'll get back to that later. For now, let's just say he knows the ropes and this velvet-y little brooche made is proof of that.

Also available in green or purple, it measures in at nine cm (almost 4 inches). This is not the most discreet of accesories, not like a lapel pin. No, this is definitely not for the modest but done right and worn boldly it would lift any outfit, from the beach appropriate to the black tie evening wear. Still, it's pretty pricey despite being on sale but there's no way around the fact that it looks oh-so-good. And if you happen to buy it, I can guarantee you two things: You'll be pretty unique in owning it, and you will get appreciative comments on it. If nothing else it's a sure coversation-starter.

Object | Quoddy for South Willard - Black Leather Brick Sole Blucher

I'll start off with a side note. When I was going to write this post, the products weren't where I expected them to be. Turns out South Willard, which is one of our favorite stores, has started to get some of the fall merchandise to drop in at the store. Seems a bit early right, but who are we to argue?

Okay, on topic. I caught sight of these bluchers from Quoddy for South Willard the other day and as you might expect, they're really nice. We've already done the brown suede version of these before but I figured the black leather option was reason enough to give them another go. Personally I prefer the suede version and like the non-brick sole version of the black leather blucher better but if you're into brick soles at the moment, and I wouldn't blame you, then this is kind of ideal I guess.

Style Icon | Sébastien Tellier

He has been compared to the legendary Serge Gainsbourg and even hailed as his heir by some. He has worked with some of the greatest names in the contemporary french music scene.
The man? Sébastien Tellier.

Born in 1975, he was discovered by the french band Air who signed him to their own label, Record Makers. Despite some recognition for songs like "La Ritournelle" he didn't get his big mainstream breakthrough until his participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, which caused great controversy in France since his song, "Divine", was largely in English. Around the same time he released his third album, "Sexuality" which was produced by Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, one half of the legendary duo Daft Punk.

He's a talented man and plays most of the instruments on his tracks himself, and sings not only in french and english but also in spanish and italian. Apart from his albums he has also contributed to a number of soundtracks including Lost In Translation, Narco and Steak in which he also played one of the characters

As for personal style, he's got plenty of it. He's usually dressed in a suit, without looking like a stiff. Rather he looks what the french might call déshabillé, with his clothes disheveled, a long flowing mane of hair paired with a full beard and a pair of wrap-around shades. Kind of like a hungover jetsetter who's been out partying all night. Or like if The Dude started dressing up and wore suits instead of just a bathrobe. Either way it all goes perfectly with his oversexed persona.

Down below is one of his songs, "Kilometer". Granted it's remixed, and might be a bit more up-tempo than the original but it still gives a taste of the dreamy landscapes that Tellier creates with his music, and the raw sensuality that oozes from it. Enjoy...

Object | Moscot for Common Projects - 'Type One' Sunglasses

Nothing is perhaps as important in the summer as finding the right pair of sunglasses. It's a tricky business with a lot of factors (the model, the shape of your face, the color etc) to take into account. It's a jungle out there but what it all comes down to is finding a pair that you like and feel comfortable in.

For me that has long been a pair of old Ray-Ban Wayfarers (I know, I know. It might be terribly klichéed, but I got them from my father a long time ago and I've grown attached to them). But last summer somebody I know borrowed them and, long story short, they are, although in pristine shape, out of my reach for a while. So, needless to say, I'm on the lookout for a new pair.

This pair, from the renowned collaboration between Common Projects and Moscot, might be the option for me. As always with Common Projects the design is minimalistic and the branding kept to a minimum. And since they're made by Moscot who have a long tradition and great experience of eyewear you know you're bound to get a quality product.

The shape, while reminding of the classic Wayfarer, is modern and I especially like the details at the nose. As for color, for me nothing's as good as black when it comes to shades. Yeah, I talked myself into this enough now. I'm getting them.

Object | Stephan Schneider - Coat Resolution

Another great piece of outerwear from Stephan Schneider. This time it's more of a coat/trenchcoat offering and as usual when it comes to mister Schneider, it's a beautiful piece of craftmanship.

Simple and elegant, this is an instant classic that evokes that old school film noir-style. A sleek silhouette, utilitarian flap pockets, hidden buttoning, that crucial belt and button-adjustable sleeves. Humphrey Bogart probably wouldn't have minded wearing this and truth be told, neither would I.

The only twist are the two buttons placed at the left front pocket which provides for an intriguing detail while not compromising the clean look of it. Get it now from Opening Ceremony, who are nice enough to give it to you for half the price at the moment. It's also available in a more greyish color which looks just as great, but you can never go wrong with black.

Object | Kitsuné - Dinner Jacket

A dinner jacket might not be high up on everybody's list of things to get. Maybe it shouldn't be, there are a lot of other things that are much more useful and versatile. But there's no denying that a man seldom looks as good as he does in evening wear. And don't we all want to look as good as possible?

The masters of creativity over at Kitsuné has set out to help you with that. With their dinner jacket, available at Studio Homme (at 30% off), they've created a delightfully playful piece. The navy dinner jacket has an unusual contrasting cream colored wide shawl lapels that draws to mind the refinement of times long past, or maybe James Bond. It might be on the expensive side, but it's a piece that works equally well at saturday night parties and black tie events. And wherever you wear it, you're sure to get appreciative glances from the people around you.

Object | Martin Margiela - Wool Coat

Now might not be a time when your thinking about wool coats. But come fall that will be just what you'll be wanting. So to help you stay one step ahead of your game, I present you this by none other than Martin Margiela.

Though fashionably slim-cut it might look average, even dull, to you but as always when it comes to Margiela, the devil is in the details. Hidden buttoning, cuffs with false button holes and small lapels on a collar that can be buttoned on especially chilly days all helps in keeping it interesting and makes for a truly stylish piece. Who said that staying fashionable always comes at the expense of function?

Object | Raf Simons - Slim Fit Khaki Trousers

Much like our latest Déjà Vu, our first proper piece on a pair of pants is long overdue. I was surprised to see we haven't written about any before (though we have been diligent when it comes to shorts). Maybe it's because it's hard to find that pair of pants that jump out at you the way that shirts, sweaters and shoes often do.

This pair of slim fit khaki trousers, courtesy of Raf Simons, did manage to catch my eyes. Not because it adds any innovative elements ("twists") but rather because it does the classic so well. Simple and clean design, which is just the way it should be. I haven't tried these on personally but if they're anything like the wool trousers Raf did last fall, as far as fit and quality goes, these should be top of the line. And it doesn't hurt that South Willard has them marked down 70 percent either.

Object | A.P.C. - Western Shirt

I know Eric featured this denim western shirt from A.P.C. back when he wrote a post on western shirts but I rediscovered it the other day. And, it's on sale these days so I think that a repost is justified.

As a stand-alone shirt, this probably isn't the best option out there, and it isn't even on my top three as such. But worn on top of another shirt/t-shirt, as a jacket, the way that A.P.C. styled it on their website, it's unequaled. So if your looking for something casual to throw over any outfit when the evenings get chilly, look no further.

Summer Sale @ Très Bien Shop

I don't think anyone has missed out on this but just in case; everybody's favorite store, Très Bien Shop has launched their long-awaited summer sale, with 30 to 50% percent off pretty much everything.

Très Bien probably doesn't need any further introduction by now as they have firmly established themselves as one of the world's most well reputed stores, carrying a wide selection of the best brands. So I'll just tell you that if you happen to be in Malmö, stop by. And if not, well there's always the impressive online store. This is the time to snatch that special piece you've had your eyes on for the last months. Happy hunting!
